William E “Bill” Nichols died Tuesday morning August 22nd at the age of 95. He was a strong willed man who lived a long, full life. Bill was born in New Orleans in 1922. He earned a scholarship to LSU as a boxer, volunteered for the marines during WWII, and fought in the Pacific theatre including the major battles at Guadalcanal and Okinawa. He was an avid sports fan, especially of LSU baseball and Saints football. Bill never met a stranger. From the clerks at Walgreens to the man who delivered his oxygen, he always made a lasting impression. A strongly, opinionated man, with many contradictions, he could be kind and cruel, generous and cheap, trusting and secretive. Above all, he was a man who cared deeply about his family. Bill is survived by four children: Barry, Penny, Billy and Mark; his daughter-in-law, Sarah, and his three grandchildren, Ben, Kelli, and Jenni. Words can never be enough to express the essence of the man. Rest In Peace.
