Victor Raymond Beverson, our hero, an amazing human being, wonderful father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, Brother, supportive, loving husband, honorable Marine Corps veteran, true friend, faithful servant of God, was taken by the angels on January 4, 2018. He was full of love and loved by all who knew him. He will be forever in our hearts. Vic was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 18, 1930, and enlisted in the United States Navyafter high school. After being honorably discharged from the Navy Reserve, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He played football in the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1950. He was a mechanical specialist at Exxon’s Baton Rouge refinery, chemical plant, and plastics plant, retiring after 42 years of service. He officiated high school football as a referee for 20 plus years. Ordained Deacon in1962 at Trinity Baptist and continued as a deacon at Lanier Baptist and Sandy Creek Baptist Church, he served on many committees and was a pillar of that church. Vic is survived by his devoted wife of 30 plus years Betty June Hess, sister Beatrice Simpson, daughters Sandra Lynn Beverson of Prairieville, and Deborah Ray Haley of Tickfaw, a stepdaughter, Carolyn Penny Beisner (Craig) of Jupiter, Florida, granddaughter Melissa Joan Heffernan (Dennis) of Prairieville, great-granddaughter Millie Heffernan, great-grandsons Myles and Mason Heffernan, step-grandsons Carlin and Clayton Beisner, and four half-brothers, Donald, Richard, Jim and Victor, He was preceded in death by his father Victor Reynold Beverson, mother Mary Ida Thompson Beverson, step-father Edward Shively, first wife of 39 years Joan Dungan, uncle Ernest Thompson, aunt Erma Stewart, brother Michael Shively, and granddaughter Tiffany Trosclair. Vic was a faithful, lifetime member of the Marine Corps League Choctaw Detachment in Baton Rouge and served in many capacities on the detachment and state level. The family would like to thank the staff of Audubon Hospice, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Ollie Steele Burden Manor, and Doctors David Hanson, Maureen Jones, Harold Clausen, and Brian Petit, for their expertise and compassionate care of Vic for 22 years. Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Sandy Creek Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Band of Brothers and Marine Corps League Choctaw Detachment members. Officiants at the funeral service with be Reverend T.W. Terral and Pastor Dr. Tim Norris of Sandy Creek Baptist Church. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Boulevard, on Tuesday, January 9, from 8 am until funeral service in the chapel at 11 am. Internment will be at Greenoaks Cemetery, 9595 Florida Boulevard, following service. In lieu of flowers, please support the Sandy Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 10, Pride, La. 70770, or the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys For Tots Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
