She was a beautiful soul who lit up every room she entered. Terresa “Terry” Smith Serio passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 following a brief illness. She was 60 years old. A native of Miami, FL, Terry graduated from Jacksonville University in Theatrical and Dramatic Arts. She was a very talented singer, dancer and actress with aspirations of performing on Broadway. Despite these dreams, she had a greater desire to settle down and start a family. After several moves across the country, Terry found her home in Baton Rouge, LA where she resided for the rest of her life. Here, she found her niche performing in many productions at the Baton Rouge Little Theatre, met lifelong friends, and began her successful career in sales/marketing at Cablevision. In 1985, she married the love of her life Jerome and later welcomed their daughter, Rachel. As a devoted wife and mother, Terry loved their little family more than anything. They will forever cherish their memories as a family of three. Terry continued her illustrious & dedicated career working for WVLA, Cox Communications and Manship Theatre. She wrapped up her career working as the Assistant Director of the LSU Student Union Theatre. Terry very rarely slowed down and loved facing any challenge that came her way. She faithfully volunteered at Sacred Heart Church, performed for over 20 years in the Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre’s production of “The Nutcracker” and dedicated years of service as the Former Board President of the Big Buddy Program. After her retirement in 2016, she spent her time gardening, cooking, decorating, antique shopping and hosting the most fabulous parties at her beautiful home, including the wedding of her daughter and son-in-law. Terry was a very warm and nurturing person who made everyone feel welcome, including the many misfit animals she rescued, adopted and loved throughout her life. She was a faithful and humble person who truly loved life and appreciated her blessings. Her generous spirit and bright smile will be remembered always. She is survived by her lifelong love, Jerome D. Serio; daughter Rachel S. Pitchford & husband Ryan M. Pitchford ; Brother, L. Beale Smith IV; Sisters, Darie S. Gilliam and husband Charles Gilliam; Virginia L. Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in her death by her Parents, L. Beale Smith III and Virginia Carlucci Smith; and Jerome’s parents, C. Paul Serio and Lucille Messina Serio.  Pallbearers named to serve are Leonard Augustus, Charles Gilliam, Jason Furrate, John Rousseau, Nicholas LoBianco, and Shaun Irvine.
