Orrie Adeline Watson Gould was born on November 13, 1918, to Frank Watson and Jessie Randall Watson. She went very peacefully to her Heavenly Father July 3, 2017, in Baton Rouge, LA with family at her side. She was born on the family homestead in Sioux County, Nebraska, in a sod house. Orrie was the fourth of nine children. Her family lost their farm during the great depression. After the depression, they moved to Torrington, WY where they resumed their farming operations. Orrie graduated from Torrington High School and Grand Island Business College. She relocated to Lincoln, Nebraska where she worked at a bank. While in Lincoln, she met a Chemical Engineering student, Merle Gould, of Hitchcock, S.D. They married on February 28, 1942. They lived in Berkley, California, Cincinnati, Ohio and then finally moved to Baton Rouge, LA in 1955. Orrie was a stay-at-home mom and enjoyed lively bridge games as well as golf. She was a great supporter of her children’s many activities. She was truly an amazing woman who always put others needs before her own. Her children learned much from her as a mother, guide and friend. After raising her children, she enjoyed working at Goudchaux’s in the gifts and china section ultimately retiring from Dillards. Orrie also enjoyed traveling with her husband as well as the many family trips back to the Plains states to visit family. She was always very independent, sometimes even stubborn, but always undaunted. After her husband died in 1994, she used the lessons learned during the Great Depression to continue a happy and productive life. Orrie was a long time member of Jefferson Baptist Church. Her husband Merle Lester Gould, her brothers Leadore, Frank, and Charles Watson, and her sisters Laura, Claire, Bertha and Helen Francis preceded Orrie in death. She is survived by her sisters Jessie Mae Finley (Omaha, NE) and Esther Terrell (Torrington, WY) and her three children Dr. Larry A. Gould (Dr. Marianne Nielsen) of Flagstaff, AZ, Shirley A. Gremillion (John Wust) of Metairie and Jeffery E. Gould (Jane Gould) of Baton Rouge. She is also survived by her grandchildren Chancey Montang of Arlington, TX, Travis Gremillion of Metairie, Brian Gremillion (Diana Gremillion), of New York, Tommy Gould, M.D. (Heather Juneau Gould) of Zachary and Lindsey Gould Santos (Jayson Santos) of Clemson, SC as well as eleven great grandchildren Visitation on Wednesday, July 12th from 9:00 – 11:00 at Rabenhorst (downtown) followed by a celebration of life service conducted by Dr. T C French.
