Ola Mai Adams, a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend was born in New Roads on January 22, 1925. She spent her childhood in the Great Depression and as an adult became a member of the Greatest Generation. She was a SuperMom long before the phrase came into being. Upon graduating from Poydras High School she attended Spencer Business College to prepare for a career in the workforce. On June 6, 1943 she married a uniformed WWII army sergeant, Kenneth Adams, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Roads. Soon after the end of the war they moved to Baton Rouge where she was a resident until 2016 when she moved to Texas to be close to her Houston family. She passed on May 15, 2017. Over the decades she was employed by Kalmbacm-Burckett, Blue Cross and Hahn Sales performing a variety of tasks from general clerk to sales. One of her many pastimes was the craft of ceramics giving away many of her creations to family and friends who value them for the treasures they are. A lifelong devout Catholic, she was a member of the Catholic Daughters Society and volunteered to run the gift shop at St. Jean Vianney for many years. She loved gardening and was an excellent cook and baker as anyone who had the good fortune to sit at her table would attest. Her kitchen skills were equal to her expertise as a superb seamstress. Her mastery of a sewing machine along with the delicate artistry of hand embroidery was greatly admired and appreciated. Preceded in death by her parents Edwin Francis Laurent and Ivy Ola Bourgeouis Laurent; a brother, Edwin “Eddie” Laurent Jr.; a sister, Frances Laurent Ducote; and her husband, Kenneth Gerard Adams Sr. Survived by a sister, Barbara Laurent Jarreau; two sons, Kenneth Gerard (Shelia) of Baton Rouge and Christopher Walter (Bobbye) of Houston; six grandchildren: Kyla Watson (Bobby), Shad Davis, Kristi Icaza (Allan), Kevin Adams (Mindy), Kari Roberson (Casey), Kelly Adams (Brenda); eleven great-grandchildren: Mason, Madeline, Gabriel, Grace, Dorothy, Joan, Cori, Kelsey, Chloe, Jacob, John; and numerous nephews and nieces who all share a wealth of memories at Granny’s. Pallbearers: Kevin Adams, Kelly Adams, Casey Roberson, Allan Icaza, Bobby Watson, Brett Jarreau, Scott Jarreau, Corey Jarreau. Visitation on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 9 till 10 am at St. Jean Vianney. Mass at 10 am and burial at Greenoaks immediately following the Mass.
