Mary Taylor Bourgeois Broyles, “Tal” or “Mema” was born on Dec. 19, 1945 and died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Feb. 3, 2018. Although she eagerly awaited the release of her soul to God, her family did not. Tal was the rock and the glue of the family. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends, always tried to instill fairness and kindness, and wore many hats. She was her husband Joe’s best friend. They were the love of each other’s lives, married for 50 years. Tal was a retired social worker, stay-at-home mom, Eucharistic minister, avid tennis player, fisherman, duck hunter and supporter of retriever field trials (Joe’s passion). As one friend once said, she was as comfortable in a duck blind as she was in a ball gown. She loved working in her yard, riding her tractor at breakneck speed. She loved her bluebirds. She adored her grandchildren – taking them to see the train in the red wagon when they were young and giving head rubs any time she saw them. Tal was preceded in death by her father, Hannis T. Bourgeois; mother, Edna Roques Bourgeois; brother, Hannis T. Bourgeois, Jr.; sisters, Tamara Rose Bourgeois and Avonia Boudreaux; and grandson, Joseph Nelson Broyles, II. She is survived by her husband, Joe; daughter, Stephanie; son, Jeb (wife Angie); daughter, Amanda (husband Craig Silvey); son, Patrick (wife Jamie); and grandchildren, Nick, Emrey and Maddie Broyles; Taylor, Lloyd and Tucker Silvey; and Anna Virginia and William Broyles. She leaves behind many close friends, some of over 65 years, including her “Come Lord Jesus” group. A funeral mass will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church at noon, Tuesday February 6, with visitation in the church from 10 am – noon. A private burial will be held at a later date. The family gives special thanks to Father Randy Cuevas; Father Josh Johnson; doctors Patrick Stagg, Will Russell and Michael Castine; the ICU staff at BRGMC and Hospice of Baton Rouge.
