Marie Adele Lavigne Haigler, 80, a native and lifetime resident of Baton Rouge, La., passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at 1:00 am. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. She was known as “Granny” by her 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, and as “Nanny” by the many children she took care of over the years. Marie is survived by daughter and son-in law, Bridget and Al Carter, daughter Theresa Haigler and fiancé Jerry Prestenbach; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald Jr. and Joanie Haigler, Joe and Vicki Haigler, and David and Patti Haigler; sisters Rose Mary Lavigne Smith and Josephine Lavigne Lewis; and Godchildren Boyce Smith Jr. and Robin Rayburn. Marie is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Donald Ray Haigler, Sr., who passed away just 2 weeks earlier. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Joseph A. Lavigne of Lobdell, La. and Rose Mary Seguin Lavigne of Port Allen, La., and her brothers Louis and Joseph Jr. Lavigne. Marie was a licensed beautician; during her lifetime she owned and operated several beauty salons, and more recently, a daycare center. Marie was a devout Catholic and volunteer at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church parish, where she and her family were founding members. Marie was active in the parish up to the time of her diagnosis of pancreatic cancer earlier this year. The family would like to thank Marie’s lifelong friend, Priscilla Mire, for her continued love and support, especially her devotion and care over the last few months. Also thanks to caregivers, Sheila Hebert and Leah Boudreaux and Hospice nurse, Bea. Visitation will be on Friday, October 6, 2017, at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd, from 5pm until 9pm, and will resume on Saturday morning at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church, 16166 S. Harrell’s Ferry Rd, at 9am and will continue until Mass of Christian Burial at 11am, celebrated by Rev. Thomas Ranzino and Deacon Brent Duplessis. Burial will follow at Denham Springs Memorial Cemetery. Pall bearers include grandchildren, Brad Haigler, Derek Haigler, Jordan Valenti, Blake Haigler, Jules Haigler, Jesse Haigler, and Hogan Carter. Honorary pall bearers are Boyce Smith, Jr. and Joey Romero.
