Judith Elaine Capps died at her home in Baton Rouge, La., on Sunday, Oct. 1, following a brief illness. A longtime educator, she spent her career as a teacher and school administrator. For the last several years, she worked to keep children in school or help their parents keep them in school. She loved her work and loved the success stories of her former students.  Born in Hammond, La. on June 23, 1943, to Eloise and Ras Rogers, she was a graduate of Ponchatoula High School and Southeastern Louisiana University. She received additional degrees from Louisiana State University and was a lifelong learner. She loved math and reason, which often complicated her love of LSU football.  Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Capps, the love of her life. They shared a love of travel, bridge, great food, good wine, friends and their sheltie “Max.”  But most importantly, they loved their family. Judy’s best times were spent with her son, Kenneth Daigle, his wife, Catherine Mennenga, and their two daughters, Elinor and Josephine Daigle, all of Fairfield, Conn. She was a devoted daughter to Eloise Guwang, and her mother enjoyed their frequent lunches out, as well as the occasional casino trip. Judy always won at black jack; Lois had an uneven relationship with the nickel slots.  She is also survived by her stepson, Robert Capps, of Denham Springs, and his children, Candace Ramey, Sarah and Robin Capps of Denham Springs; her sister, Lori; nephews, Walter and August Williams; and niece Mary Ellynne Williams, all of Houston, Texas. She also was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Ann Rogers; and stepfather, Clinton Guwang. Survivors include lots of cousins and other family members and a host of great friends. A visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 6. A service will be held there at 11 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Georgetown Cemetery in Georgetown, La.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Judy’s memory to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, P.O. Box 127, Baton Rouge, La. 70821. (svdpbr.org) The Society helps buy uniforms and fills other needs for school children, a cause dear to Judy’s heart.
