Frank Hilburn Hathorn passed away on January 7, 2018. He was a gentle and kind soul and loved and adored his wife “Millie Gene” and family. He was born in Lecompte, Louisiana on November 2, 1931 and lived in Alexandria, La. for many years before making his home in Baton Rouge to be closer to his grandchildren. After graduating from Louisiana State University with a degree in Agronomy, he worked in the Alexandria office of the United States Department of Agriculture – Farmers Home Administration, where he became District Director. He also served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the Army Reserves, attaining the position of Battalion Commander and achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel. Frank was an avid gardener and golfer and a great cook. He was active in the SCORE program for the Chamber of Commerce in Alexandria, and he and his wife volunteered at many organizations in Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Hilburn Hathorn and Lillie Dell Moore. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Mildred Gene Halderman, children Michael (Susan Maybud) of Geneva, Switzerland, and Meredith (Rawley Penick) and Steven (Barbara Vidrine) of Baton Rouge, La., and grandchildren Gene, Stephanie, Sarah and Paige. A visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral home, 825 Government Street, on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 12:45 pm until the funeral service at 1:30 pm., to be officiated by Rev. Chris Andrews. A reception will follow the funeral service. Our family would like to thank the caregivers and staff of The Pearl at Jamestown and the staff of Hospice in His Care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider a donation to Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area – Charlie’s Place, Our Lady of the Lake Foundation – Children’s Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
