Ferne Kemp Loupe (1929-2018). A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, April 10, at 11 a.m. for Ferne Kemp Loupe, who passed away April 4, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. surrounded by family and loved ones. Ferne was born Dec. 16, 1929 in Liberty Hill in Bienville Parish and was a resident of Baton Rouge since 1952, where she devoted her life’s work to education. For almost four decades she was a high school teacher at Dutchtown High in Ascension Parish, St. James High in St. James Parish, and then at Robert E. Lee High and St. Joseph’s Academy in Baton Rouge before her retirement. Those nearly 40 years allowed her to positively impact and touch the lives of thousands of young people. Ferne attended Jonesboro High School in Jackson Parish, received her bachelor’s degree from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches and her master’s degree from LSU. She was a charter member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and devoted much of her time in service in many roles to the church. She was also a long-time member of the Krewe of Iduna where she was ball captain and served on the board of directors for many years. A beloved mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband of 68 years, Denver T. Loupe, Ph.D.; her children Stephen Loupe and spouse Melody, and Stephenie Loupe Teichman and spouse Dan; grandchildren Marie Teichman, Ross Teichman and Stephen Loupe II, her nephews Dan McDonald and James Roy Mixon, her niece Anita Mixon Pierce, as well as many grandnephews and grandnieces. Ferne was preceded in death by her parents Stephen Percy Kemp and Naomi Kemp, and her sisters Rookh Caskey McDonald and Ezelle Caskey Mixon, their spouses Allen Ross McDonald and Lee Roy Mixon, and her nephew James Carson McDonald, M.D. Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home on Government Street on Monday, April 9, from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will continue at St. Aloysius on Tuesday, April 10, from 9-10:30 a.m. with the funeral mass to follow. In lieu of flowers, friends are invited to make donations in her honor to the LSU Alumni Association, Lod Cook Alumni Center, 3838 West Lakeshore Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70808, and the Northwestern State University College of Education, Northwestern State University, Natchitoches, LA 71497. A special thank you to the health care professionals from the Baton Rouge General Bluebonnet campus and especially Dr. John Godke, and to her personal friends and physicians, Dr. Louis R.
