Ferdinand J. Bello, Jr., a native and resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on January 31, 2017 at the Hospice of Baton Rouge Butterfly Wing at the age of 93. Ferdinand served in the Navy during WWII in the Pacific Fleet as a Radarman. After the war, he graduated from Louisiana State University in 1948 with a business degree from the College of Commerce. He was a member of the Theta Kappa Phi Catholic fraternity at LSU, and a 75 year alumnus of Catholic High School. He retired after many years of serving as Director of Examining for the Louisiana Department of Civil Service. He was also a previous member of Sacred Heart Usher Society. His passion in life was his three daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His love for his wife June Bello lasted a lifetime, even after her death in 1992. He was an avid Catholic High and LSU sports fan. He is survived by his daughters, Rebecca “Becky” DeJohn and her husband Louis of Central, LA, Joyce Bailey of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Barbara “Babs” Bello of Slaughter, LA; brother, James Warren Bello and his wife Betty; grandchildren, Kim DeJohn Vince, Trey DeJohn, Jennifer DeJohn, Wayne, Shane, and Kyle Cassano, and Jenee’ DeJohn Scott; and 13 loving great grandchildren whom he dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferdinand J Bello, Sr. and Norma Lieux Bello; brother, Emile Bello; sisters, Mary Ann Bello Molony and Theresa Faye Bello Amos. Visitation will be Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. A rosary service will be at 11:00. The Mass will be celebrated by Father M. Jeffery Bayhi. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Wayne Cassano, Shane Cassano, Kyle Cassano, Trey DeJohn, Josh Scott, and Tommy Vince. Honorary pallbearers will be James Warren Bello, R. Wayne Amos, and Raymond T. Molony. Special thank you to caregivers Elsie Plain and Audrey Thomas, and to the staff at Oakwood Village and Baton Rouge Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catholic High School or Hospice of Baton Rouge. Rabenhorst Funeral Home Downtown is in charge of the arrangements.
