Doyle Whittington passed away peacefully at his home in Baton Rouge on Thursday, March 2, 2017 after a 17-year battle with cancer. He was 82. Born in Gladewater, Texas, he lived most of his life in Baton Rouge. After graduating from Istrouma High School, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard where he was a member of the National Rifle and Pistol Team. While attending LSU, he earned his degree, and worked as the first property manager of Claycut Place Apartments. This was the beginning of a life-long career in real estate development, construction, and management. He and his wife of 54 years worked together to build a successful business in multi-family and elderly housing throughout the State of Louisiana. Doyle was instrumental in forming and organizing the Rural Rental Housing Association of Louisiana, of which he served as president. His greatest legacy is his beautiful family, whom he loved dearly. Doyle is survived by his wife, Dottie Cotton Whittington; his children, daughter, Robin Whittington Hebert (husband Mark), and two sons, Robert Whittington (wife Anna Beth), and Ryan Whittington (wife Jennifer); his ten grandchildren, Elizabeth and Christian Hebert, Marshall, Tucker, Laurel, Thomas, and Matthew Whittington, Wilson and John Russ, and James Ryan Whittington. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Meda Whittington; brothers, Emil, Lee, and Homer Whittington; and his sister, Ramona Whittington Williamson. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. His loyalty, sense of humor, and faithfulness will be remembered by all who knew him. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home Downtown, 825 Government Street, on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, 930 North Blvd, from 10:00 a.m. until funeral service at 12:00. Interment to follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be Branko Dragovic, Austin Cormier, Roy Hendrick, John Landry, Christian Hebert, Marshall Whittington, Tucker Whittington, and Wilson Russ. The family expresses deep appreciation to our friend Rose Dadzie, caregivers, Claudette Helm and Pam Henry, Amedisys Home Health and Hospice Care, Dr. Randy Vick, and to Dr. Gerald Miletello and his caring staff.
