“In a bittersweet moment, another angel has found their wings and has set off on flight safe into the arms of God” Dorothy Evelyn Nugent Nevels passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017 in Kenner surrounded by her daughters. Dorothy was born 83 years ago in Westwego, LA to David & Bernice Nugent. She grew up in Baton Rouge where she attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy. She married Marion Lionel Nevels in 1952 and began her family. Dorothy worked as an auditor for the State Department of Revenue and retired in 1992 after 25 years of service. After retirement, her time was spent volunteering with after school care at St. Jean Vianney School, the Golden Opportunity program at Ochsner Medical Center (O’Neal Lane) and crocheting baby blankets for “Threads of Love”. She was a lifelong, faithful member of the Catholic Church, most recently as a parishioner of St. Thomas More in Baton Rouge. She loved solving crossword puzzles and playing slots, and started each day with coffee and a cigarette followed by her morning prayers. She was a beautiful, loving, kind, witty, smart, independent and generous mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt and will be deeply missed by her family. She is survived by her five children, Danny & wife Laura Nevels of Tampa, FL, Liz and husband Charlie (Rattie) Bergeron of Metairie, LA, Lonnie Nevels of Cape Canaveral, FL, Elaine Jarratt of Kenner, LA and MariAn Jarratt of Baton Rouge, LA; her grandchildren, Kyle Bergeron, Daniel Nevels, Lindsey Boudreaux and Tayler Bowman; her great-grandchildren, Tyler Nevels, Aria Torres, and “baby” Boudreaux; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Madge Rumfola and Mildred Horton.
